In recognizing this need, King Abdulaziz University invited SHTM to develop academic programmes adapted to Saudi Arabian cultural needs and to the tourism industry. SHTM has developed three such programmes, namely, (1) Diploma in Travel and Tourism Management, (2) Bachelor of Science in Travel and Tourism Management, and (3) Master of Science in Event and Tourism Management.

SHTM was engaged by Jamaica Ministry of Tourism to develop a business case for the Jamaica Centre of Tourism Innovation (JCTI). The creation of JCTI is intended to facilitate the realization of a human capital development strategy and action plan for Jamaica’s tourism industry, as well as to identify a space to ensure that Jamaicans can innovate to meet visitor demand.

SHTM was invited by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Indonesia, to provide a three-week training programme for hotel and tourism management educators in Indonesian higher education institutions. The training programme helps the educators improve their knowledge of and insights in the theory, practice, and skills in hotel and tourism management.

The Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners invited SHTM to come up with a roadmap for the development of Hong Kong tourism. The roadmap is based on diverse aspects of tourism development including Asia Pacific tourism mega trends, tourist satisfaction, service quality indicators, and the social impact of tourism growth in the destination. The roadmap shows that the Federation plays a lead role in being an industry advocate for the visitor economy.

China National Travel Service Group Corporation invited SHTM to conduct a study on the impact of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge on Tourism Development in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. The study covered a broad range of tourism sectors including travel agents, transportation (cross-border buses, ships, cruises, airlines) and tourism attractions.

SHTM conducted a Tourism Big Data project collaborating with Korea Tourism Organization and Korea Telecom. The objective of this project is to identify travel movement patterns of international travelers while they visit cities in South Korea. The tourism big data project analyzes mobile roaming data of travelers in Jeonju city, one of the most popular travel destinations in Korea. Based on a number of spatial big data analytics, we are able to identify detailed movement patterns in both inter destinations (cities by cities) and intra destinations (within a city). This video illustrates visually the insights regarding spatial and temporal movement patterns of the travelers.

The tourism development plan evaluates the potential of Guilin as a tourism destination, and recommends how the company may enter the tourism market. The hotel development advises the company how to build a brand for its own hotels.

Greaton Ribbon engaged SHTM to conduct a study related to wellness tourism in South Australia. The study focuses predominantly on the demand side of potential wellness and medical tourism in South Australia, and the initial study findings and insights were presented to the Minister for Tourism (South Australia). The findings and the feedback received from government help guide the company’s endeavour in developing wellness tourism business in Australia.

SHTM was invited by Chengdu Polytechnic to provide advisory services with the aim of assisting Chengdu Polytechnic to apply for UNWTO TedQual certification. SHTM audited Chengdu Polytechnic’s Hotel and Tourism Management curricula, facilities and quality assurance, and recommended improvements of the above in order to reach international standards and meet UNWTO TedQual certification requirements.

SHTM participated in a feasibility study for Hong Kong Government on “Recreation and Tourism Development Strategy for Lantau Island”. The feasibility study helps formulate a recreation and tourism development strategy for Lantau, identifying and shortlisting the worthwhile proposals on recreation and tourism development in Lantau, and assesses the feasibility of the shortlisted proposals in accordance with the overall development strategy.

Hong Kong Tourism Board invited SHTM to conduct a study on exotic cruise ports, which helps provide information for the development of more touristic attractive itineraries to consolidate Hong Kong’s position as a preferred port for cruise travel. The project study team undertook desktop research, analyzed the demand and supply of cruise tourism, forecast future cruise and port development in the region, and assessed the attractiveness of different itineraries.

The Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong invited SHTM to conduct an independent study on the financial and operational impact of Airport Construction Fee collection on its member travel agents. The study indicates the magnitude of the impact on different categories of travel agents in terms of business volume.
